Sun, sea and sand in Sardinia

Sardinia has blue waters, sandy beaches, stunning mountains, historical sites, restaurants and lively nightlife. The island is a haven for sailing enthusiasts, it has several marinas and is home to the Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) which attracts the rich and famous with their super-yachts.

Sardinian property as an investment

With such prestigious neighbours, it’s hardly surprising that any Sardinian property purchase will prove to be a great investment. Sardinia welcomes around 3 million holidaymakers every year – mainly from Europe. It is a particular favourite with Italian holidaymakers – mainly from the landlocked areas of Lombardy, Piedmont and Lazio.

What does Sardinia have to offer?
– The island has a varied landscape.
– Inland is mainly mountainous and largely unspoilt – wild horses and deer run free.
– Sardinia came to prominence as a tourist destination for the rich and famous when the Aga Khan founded Porto Cervo in Costa Smeralda.
– The popular holiday resorts are concentrated along the coastal areas but you’ll still be able to find quiet sandy coves.

Real estate in Sardinia

Looking at the price for residential properties for sale in Italy’s regions, Sardinia sits roughly in the middle.  The average price in euros per square meter in Sardinia is €1,526 (Statista – September 2020). It’s possible to pick up a 2-bed renovation project for around €30,000 but, in the main, turnkey properties tend to range from around €250,000 to large luxury villas at between €3 to €8 million.

What about the climate?

Sardinia has the benefit of being an all-year-round holiday destination with properties available throughout the year. It is hot and sunny with little rain in the summer months. Those who want to avoid the bustle of the high-summer tend to visit in spring and autumn. Winter can be cloudy and rainy but it is still mild with sunny spells and visitors are attracted by the more local ambience at this time of year. January is the coldest month but still offers highs of nearly 15⁰C. Some restaurants may be closed in the winter, so you should always make other arrangements for eating beforehand.
